Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the first federal holiday honoring an African American. It is observed on the third Monday of January. And while most people enjoy the day off from work, the King Center encourages people to make the day, a day of service…a day of giving back to the community.
And on that day, we see people volunteering…. just the way we saw people donating, their time, their money, their energy, during the holidays.
How I wish that enormous spirit of giving from Thanksgiving through the King Holiday would continue all year round; because for some unemployment is all year round; hunger is all year round; homelessness is all year round. And the organizations that provide that help, need us to keep that holiday spirit of giving, all year round. Think about it then do something about it.
