Getting to Know you

There is a quote of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr that resonates with me.  “Men often hate each other because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they cannot communicate; they cannot communicate because they are separated. “

How much are we doing to really get to know people who are not like us?  How much do we believe the stereotypes about groups of people?

Do we take the integration at work or school, back to our homes, our neighborhoods our social groups?  How diverse are our friendships?

Until we truly get to know one another and talk openly and honestly about everything, including race, we will never know the things we have in common, as well as the concerns we have in common. We must end the separation, remove the fear, communicate and truly know each other.

I value having open, honest and respectful talks about these issues.   What about you?
