The Power of Education

My mother always believed in the power of education.  She said it was transformative and she would tell me,  “Monnie if you want to get out of Smoketown, get all the education you can get.”

Her comments are reminiscent of the words of the late U.S. congresswoman from Texas, Barbara Jordan who said, “Do not call for black power or green power; call for brain power.”

What you know, the degrees, certifications, licenses, you earn, can transform your life and your family’s. Couple book knowledge with commonsense and you can almost write your own ticket.  The reason I say “almost” is because along with the education and commonsense, you must have perseverance, stick-to-it-ness. Yes, sometimes you will fail, but that is just an opportunity to begin again more intelligently…someone once said.

As Malcolm X said, “Education is our passport to the future for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”  Are you Prepared?
