School Days, School Days, good old golden rule days. Since that song was written in 1907, a lot has changed.
There’s still reading, writing and arithmetic, but there’s so much more on the curriculum that requires a backpack load of school supplies. Many families can’t afford it, especially if they have more than one child. But you can help. Consider donating supplies to your neighborhood school, a school near your workplace or to organizations collecting school supplied.
You might also consider going back to school, as a volunteer. For 10 years, I read once a week to first graders. It was so much fun for me and hopefully for them. Also participate in career days at elementary, middle and high schools. It is more than just telling them about what you do, and more about showing them, what they could be. Your presence could inspire a child to greatness.
